Our take on a gingerbread water kefir soda. Not only does molasses help our bodies but it also gives our little water kefir babies a boost and they love it! This recipe is robust in flavour and brimming with health benefits.
GINGER MOLASSES RECIPE
MAKES: about 4 cups
4 cups first ferment
1/4 tsp blackstrap molasses
1/4 tsp cinnamon or a cinnamon quill
3 Cardamom pods
5 pieces candied ginger or 3 slices fresh ginger
- Make the first ferment – mixing in 1/4 tsp blackstrap molasses and leave the jar in a warm place for 24-48 hours.
- Strain the grains and add the remaining ingredients to the swivel top bottle with the first ferment water kefir.
- Seal up the bottle and leave it in a warm place for 24 hours for the second ferment.
- Open slowly, strain and enjoy!
NEED TO KNOW:
The vitamins and minerals in blackstrap molasses make the grains plump up but you have to be very sparing. You can easily over feed them and make them disintegrate.
