The immune booster powerhouse ELDERBERRY is known as one of the top antiviral herbs on the planet.

Historians typically trace its healing abilities back to Hippocrates, the ancient Greek known as the “father of medicine,” who described the plant as his “medicine chest” because of the wide array of health concerns it seemed to cure.

Health benefits of the elder plant include naturally improving colds, the flu, sinus issues, nerve pain, inflammation, chronic fatigue, allergies, constipation and even cancer.

When used within the first 48 hours of onset of symptoms, it has actually been found to reduce the duration of the flu with symptoms being relieved on an average of four days earlier.

Elderberries contains chemical compounds called anthocyanidins, which are known to have immunity stimulating effects.

This elderberry recipe for relieving cold and flu symptoms and for just plain old boosting your immune system is very tasty.

The elderberries give the water kefir a fruity but tart edge and the cinnamon, ginger and cloves spice things up making for a wonderful flavor combination.

I personally enjoyed eating the elderberries right out of the bag because they are tart, crunchy and very good for you.

You can purchase them in Canada and the United States online at Organic Matters or ask for them at your local health store.

Drinking water kefir is an excellent choice during a cold or flu because of it’s immune boosting probiotic benefits.

The LIVE probiotics help build your immunity, the fruit and herbs add various health benefits and the electrolytes keep you hydrated.

p.s. stay tuned next week when I share a nausea relieving water kefir recipe that is ultra simple, tried and true.

Leeza Zurwick is the Founder of Happy Gut and has a deep passion for living off the earth and using fermented food as medicine. After being gifted some water kefir grains, she found it difficult to find consistent information on how to brew water kefir and she found it challenging to source the right brewing supplies. Through extensive research, trial and error, Leeza developed simple recipes and systems to ensure success and delicious results. After drinking water kefir daily, she noticed a significant reduction in bloating, clearer skin and her immune system was strengthened enough to not get sick, despite working in classrooms full of germy kids! Leeza launched Happy Gut in 2017 and made it her mission to share the age old wisdom, simplicity and incredible health benefits of live, probiotic rich, fermented Water Kefir.
