How can you go wrong with a probiotic rich, vitamin C, super boost soda that tastes delicious, festive and is good for you?

I absolutely love seeing the look on people’s faces when they try it for the first time. 

They are so pleasantly surprised at how good it tastes.

HERE IS THE LOWDOWN

Cranberries get a ton of press around the holidays, but for the rest of the year, we don’t hear much about them. That is a shame, really, because cranberries are one of the top antioxidant-rich foods, packing in more antioxidants ounce-for-ounce than other superfoods like spinach, blueberries, or even green tea and they are bursting with Vitamin C!

Part of the issue is that we don’t really know what to do with them if they aren’t canned, jellied, or dried. Fresh cranberries are super-tart and can seem more cumbersome to add to our diets than other fruits like blueberries or blackberries.

Fresh, whole cranberries are by far the most healthful option. When added with other fruits, in moderation, they make for a slightly tart addition and add over two dozen antioxidant phytonutrients to your drink!

Just be careful when purchasing anything but fresh cranberries. They are typically laden with tonnes of sugar.

Oranges are also one of the best sources of vitamin C, packing in 163 percent of what you need for the whole day in just one serving. In addition to its powerful antioxidant properties, vitamin C is also revered for its ability to improve immune function.

Add in the health benefits of ginger, cloves and cinnamon with their anti oxidants and anti inflammatory properties and water kefir with over 30 billion probiotics, B vitamins, enzymes and electrolytes and you have an amazing immunity boosting, germ fighting elixir!

Here is the recipe to make this amazing drink on your own. 

MULLED WINTER

WATER KEFIR SODA

Make the first ferment and leave the jar in a warm place for 24-48 hours.

Strain the grains and add the following to your second ferment.

1/8 cup 100 % pure unsweetened cranberry juice or 1/4 cup mashed fresh or thawed cranberries.

1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice

3 whole cloves or 1/8 tsp powder or 1 drop food grade essential oil

1/4 tsp cinnamon, cinnamon stick or 1 drop food grade essential oil

1/4 tsp ginger spice or 3 slivers fresh ginger

Seal up the green swivel top bottle and leave it in a warm place for 24 hours for the second ferment.

Open slowly.  Strain and enjoy!
