Who knew that a  cute little gingerbread man could do so much for your health???!!!

This week I wanted to feature an ingredient used at Christmas that helps our well being and boy did I hit the JACKPOT!

Honestly, I remember my mother telling me that molasses was good for me when I was growing up but I didn’t realize HOW GOOD until I did a bunch of research on it.

Not only does molasses help our bodies but it also gives our little water kefir babies a boost and if they love it, there must be something to it. 🙂

Blackstrap molasses is the dark, viscous molasses that remains after maximum extraction of sugar from raw sugar cane. It has the consistency of a thick syrup, as the third boiling of sugar syrup yields blackstrap molasses. This concentrated byproduct is left over after the sugar’s sucrose has been crystallized.  Unlike refined sugar, blackstrap molasses contains essential vitamins and minerals — boasting a number of powerful vitamins and minerals that it absorbs from the sugar cane plant. It contains high levels of vitamin B6, manganese, magnesium, potassium, iron and selenium.

B vitamins, calcium and magnesium each play a role in combating stress and anxiety, and blackstrap molasses contains all these vital minerals. Vitamin B6, for example, raises serotonin levels in the brain. This is an important hormone that controls mood and prevents pain, depression and fatigue, and blackstrap molasses’ vitamin B6 content makes adding it to your diet a great way to bust stress. The iron and B vitamins also play a role in helping relieve ADHD symptoms naturally.

Blackstrap molasses contains lactic acid, which is produced by bacteria that plays an important role in carbohydrate metabolism. Lactic acid serves as a natural acne treatment. Consuming blackstrap molasses accelerates the healing time of cuts, wounds, burns and signs of acne — helping you maintain clear and healthy skin and the development of lesions.

Do you suffer with PMS symptoms? Blackstrap Molasses is packed full of iron and help with our monthly issues.

Since it is packed with calcium, it is also good for bone health and the potassium in it can help lower blood pressure.

Not only that, it has anti inflammatory properties to ease Arthritis pain and has a low glycemic index to help stabilize blood sugar levels for people with Diabetes.

What an amazing list of benefits!

I guess my momma was right. 😉

One other inanimate object (well sort of) who love molasses are water kefir grains.

All of the vitamins and minerals in the blackstrap molasses make the grains stand to attention and make them plump up BUT you have to be very sparing.

You can easily over feed them and make them disintegrate. YIKES!

This week I feature a Gingerbread Water Kefir recipe and it is robust in flavor and brimming with health benefits.

All of the amazing added vitamins and minerals in the blackstrap molasses added to already amazing water kefir makes this elixer and mega winner!

The list of benefits is almost endless!

30 billion probiotics, enzymes, electrolytes, magnesium, iron, calcium, vitamin B’s galore, vitamin K, and folate.

Time to get brewing!!!
