If there is one recipe you should try, I highly recommend that it be this one!

We had such a great time doing our photo shoot on this one because sipping on the drink while we did the shoot made us actually giddy.

Try making it and let me know because I assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

How can you go wrong with oranges, coconut milk and vanilla?

This story is a cool little personal aside.

As I have mentioned before, we do all of our photo shoots on the Happy Gut farm because it has such an abundance of my favorite look, old and rustic.

The Happy Gut farm is located in the neighborhood where my mother grew up and I walk a big 5 km stretch regularly.

The home she grew up in is gone but the property is vacant and still littered with bricks (from the old house) and wood and metal scraps. (my mom is 81)

One day on my walk, I noticed 2 rusty old hand washing machines that were randomly laying in the field where the communal home that she grew up in once stood and it got my creative juices flowing.

Someones junk is somebody else’s gold. Right?

I love flowers and every spring I aspire to do an interesting display in my front yard and those washing machines got me all fired up to bring them back to life.

Needless to say, we got permission to take them from the landowner and brought them home and washed them up. (you should have seen the look on his face when I asked him 😉

They now proudly stand in my yard, brimming with flowers in the summer and cedar boughs in the winter and this week one of them was the backdrop for our photoshoot.

They are beautiful in their own rustic way and they bring me such sentimental feelings knowing that someone washed my mom’s and my ancestors clothes by hand in them.

To me those machines represent a labor of love.

Or maybe just labor. ;(

I often wonder what stories those washing machines could tell!

Check out the patina on that baby, you definitely can’t replicate that!

What does this story have to do with water kefir?

I just was inspired to share a Happy Gut Fun Fact. 🙂

p.s. stay tuned next week when I continue my Citrus January series and feature a strawberry lemonade soda.

Leeza Zurwick is the Founder of Happy Gut and has a deep passion for living off the earth and using fermented food as medicine. After being gifted some water kefir grains, she found it difficult to find consistent information on how to brew water kefir and she found it challenging to source the right brewing supplies. Through extensive research, trial and error, Leeza developed simple recipes and systems to ensure success and delicious results. After drinking water kefir daily, she noticed a significant reduction in bloating, clearer skin and her immune system was strengthened enough to not get sick, despite working in classrooms full of germy kids! Leeza launched Happy Gut in 2017 and made it her mission to share the age old wisdom, simplicity and incredible health benefits of live, probiotic rich, fermented Water Kefir.
