How To Make Big Batches Of Water Kefir

How To Make Big Batches Of Water Kefir

If your grains are beginning to multiply like crazy and you are looking to share the amazing benefits of water kefir with your family, friends and coworkers, then you are ready to make bigger batches of brew. We love to serve water kefir at a party as a non-alcoholic alternative.

Basic first ferment recipe:

1/4 cup grains + 1/4 cup sugar + 4 cups water

Double batch:

1/2 cup grains + 1/2 cup sugar + 8 cups water

Large batch:

3/4 cup grains + 3/4 cup sugar + 12 cups water

Extra large batch:

1 cup grains + 1 cup sugar + 16 cups water (perfect for gallon sized glass jar)

NEED TO KNOW:

Unlike kombucha, which takes 2 weeks to brew, water kefir only takes 48 hours before a fresh batch is ready. You don’t really need to make copious amounts at once, unless you’re serving it to lots of people. But with that said, once you make the water kefir, you can store it in the fridge for up to 8 weeks so you don’t have to have to make it so often.

Water kefir is such a beautiful ferment to make because you can stop and start anytime. Just put the grains into plain water and place in the fridge where they can sit in dormancy for up to 3 months before they need to be fed again.
