Sourdough Waffles with Blueberries and Pure Maple Syrup

Have you jumped on the sourdough train yet? Making your own starter is easier than ever when using water kefir first ferment. Use your excess starter in this yummy waffle recipe for a some good, old fashioned comfort food.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup multi-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsps oil
- 1 cup water kefir sourdough starter
- Blueberries for garnish (or add to batter to be cooked inside)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Begin warming a waffle maker.Mix dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry, and whisk together roughly. Batter should have lumps in it. Add more milk if it’s too thick, or more flour if it’s too wet. Add 1/2 cup of blueberries if you prefer to have them cooked inside.
Ladle batter onto a pre-warmed waffle maker (make sure it is greased if it’s not a non-stick). Waffles should be cooked in about 5 minutes.
Top with blueberries and a generous drizzle of maple syrup!
