Coconut Water Kefir Smoothie Recipe

According to research, the live probiotics in water kefir not only reduce stomach bloating, but can also help to reduce overall inflammation and water retention (edema). Did you know that just 1-2 ounces of water kefir has the same amount of probiotics as an entire tub of yogurt? Drinking coconut water is a delicious way to stay hydrated. The best part is that you can ferment your water kefir with coconut water for a tasty treat!

Electrolyte Boom! Coconut Water Kefir Chill Smoothie

MAKES: about 2.5 cups

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup watermelon (freeze it first if you want your smoothie to be extra slushie)

1/2 cup coconut water

1.5 cups first ferment coconut water kefir

1/2 cup cucumber and/or 3-4 fresh strawberries

1 cup fresh spinach

Sprig of mint or basil

1 teaspoon honey
Optional: lime juice, protein powder

Fermenting Coconut water is ultra easy!

Add 4 cups of pure coconut water to your brewing jar and stir in 1/4 cup Happy Gut water kefir grains. Place in a warm spot for 24 hours. The water kefir grains will eat up all of the natural sugars in the coconut water and produce a live probiotic, electrolyte rich, low sugar drink that can be added to smoothies.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Make your first ferment coconut water kefir.
  • Strain your first ferment and it to the blender with all the other ingredients.
  • Blend & Enjoy!
