Hibiscus Ginger Water Kefir Soda Recipe
Share
A gorgeous refreshing drink made with tart hibiscus and spicy ginger. It’s good for those in-between grocery shopping days when you may not have fresh fruit in the house and you are ready to do your second ferment. We keep dry hibiscus handy year-round and always have candied ginger in our cupboard. Easy peasy, gorgeous and delicious. Oh, and healthy, too!
HIBISCUS GINGER RECIPE
MAKES:
about 4 cups
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups first ferment
20 dried hibiscus petals
3-5 slices of fresh ginger root or 15 pieces candied ginger
INSTRUCTIONS:
Make the first ferment and leave the jar in a warm place for 24-48 hours.
Chop the ginger and put it into your swivel top bottle, along with the hibiscus.
Add first ferment water kefir.
Seal up the swivel top bottle and leave it in a warm place for 24 hours for the second ferment.
Open slowly, strain and enjoy!
NEED TO KNOW:
Typically health based stores carry dried hibiscus or you can find it in the herbal tea section of any grocery store. You can tear the teabag open and add the leaves to your water kefir recipe or you can purchase the flowers very reasonably online at Organic Matters.
Pregnant women should never drink hibiscus drinks because it could prematurely put them into labour.
